The Marangu Route is the most established trail on Mount Kilimanjaro, often called the “Coca-Cola Route” for its relative comfort and popularity. It is the only route offering hut accommodations, making it an appealing choice for climbers who prefer a roof over their heads. This 6-day itinerary is perfect for trekkers seeking a shorter, less rugged experience while still aiming for the summit of Africa’s highest mountain.

Day 01 :

Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

Start your journey through the lush rainforest from the park gate. Along the trail, you’ll encounter towering trees, black-and-white colobus monkeys, and exotic birdlife. Arrive at Mandara Hut for your overnight stay at 2,700m.

Day 02 :

Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

Continue through the rainforest and into the open moorland. The trail offers clear views of Mawenzi Peak and expansive valleys. Reach Horombo Hut at 3,720m for rest and acclimatization.

Day 03 :

Horombo Acclimatization Day

Enjoy a relaxed day to help your body adjust to the altitude. You can hike toward Mawenzi Ridge or Zebra Rocks and return to Horombo Hut for the night.

Day 04 :

Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Travel across the alpine desert to Kibo Hut (4,700m), passing the Saddle — a barren landscape between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Prepare for your midnight summit attempt with an early dinner and rest.

Day 05 :

Summit Day Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut

Begin your ascent around midnight, trekking under the stars to reach Gilman’s Point (5,685m) and onward to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the Roof of Africa. After celebrating your achievement, descend to Horombo Hut for the night.

Day 06 :

Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate

Descend through moorland and rainforest to return to the park gate. A vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to your hotel.
